Adventure Ashram

Kodaikanal is a town with a population of about 40,000 situated at an altitude of 2,200 metres above Mean Sea Level in the Palani Range of Hills in South India. The "Upper Hill Villages" in the Kodaikanal area have a total population of over 30,000 people.

There are also a large number of hamlets which are not accessible by motor vehicle at all. The need for proper medical facilities in the villages is a very strongly felt need as these villages are 30 to 40 Kilometres by road from the nearest hospital and in extreme terrain without transport in many cases that is 40Kms too far.

The majority of the people living in these villages are daily-wage earners or farmers with small holdings, who are often unable to afford medical care in Kodaikanal or in any of the cities on the plains. This underlines the need to take Health Care to the people as many people simply cannot afford to tackle illness until it's too late.

To raise the standard of living through education, health and a better understanding of the environment is the core essence of Adventure Ashram. The charity has been set up to help the people of the Palani Hills to learn to live, learn to learn, and learn to earn. The project is run by highly respected local people and is funded by Enduro India.
